Don't Stress the Small Stuff with Amethyst Weddings
Hey there, tell us a little about yourself!
My name is Siân and I'm a wedding consultant, wife and mother. I run Amethyst Weddings, offering engaged couples help and advice with their wedding planning, sourcing and booking their suppliers.
What inspired you to start your business?
I spent almost 2 years planning my own wedding, which took place in June 2008. Unlike a lot of other brides-to-be I loved all aspects of the planning process and thoroughly enjoyed all the research, especially the wedding dresses. I had serious planning blues afterwards and carried on watching every wedding program I could find. I even spent my spare time on wedding forums giving advice to brides to be from a newly-wed's perspective. It was a bug I couldn't shake off, and after a year or two of studying and researching the business I created Amethyst Weddings.
What does your typical day include?
Between Monday and Friday I wear two hats; my mummy hat and my wedding planner hat. I work methodically through my to-do list for each couple on my books. I also meet up with local suppliers and visit wedding venues. At the weekends I either meet up with my couples – both current and new – or attend their weddings. Occasionally on a Sunday I exhibit at wedding fairs but basically Sunday is my lazy day; breakfast in bed with the family.
Have you seen any trends in the wedding industry recently?
Vintage still has a big influence but my recent clients chose vintage with a rustic twist. Following trends doesn't seem to be as high a priority to couples of late and they are much happier adding a personal twist on an established theme.
Top tip for couples planning their wedding?
Don't stress about the small stuff on the wedding day, in fact don't worry about anything other than getting ready and getting to your ceremony. Essentially getting married is the most important part of the day.
