Help with your Winter Wedding Flowers
I’ve been lucky enough to get involved with #BrideHour to offer monthly words of floral wisdom to all of you out there planning your wedding! As the owner of Vintage Gathering Wedding Flowers, I love giving advice and info about all things flowery, which hopefully you’ll find useful when planning your own wedding flowers, because let’s face it, there are enough things for you to be worrying about!
As the clocks go back, we’re officially marking the end of British Summer Time (although I think we’ve been feeling it for a while) and you might be thinking that this also marks the end of beautiful, bright and luscious flowers, leaving nothing for your winter or early spring wedding.
However, the opposite is true as winter is a great time of the year to experiment with flowers that are not available in the summer, creating floral arrangements that WOW your guests with unique textures, unusual blooms and stunning contrasts.

The lovely thing about this time of year is the creativity involved and being able to use the flowers that are out of season for the warmer busier wedding months. Two of my favourite flowers; Ranunculus and Anemone are winter lovers and come in to season from October until late March (Ranunculus can sometimes grow until late spring), offering brides a bright array of options. Or if you are looking for soft and neutral, the white Anemone with the black centre is a perfect option.

My ideal bouquet or table centrepiece for this time of year would be a stunning mix of white Anemone, white Ranunculus, Senecio, petite spray roses in a soft vintage pink, evergreen with cones attached, foraged from nearby and a touch of dark berries scattered throughout. This could be matched with buttonholes of silver Senecio, crowing a delicate mix of berries and vintage pink spray roses with a little fir cone tucked into the base for the wintery woodland accent.

Here the florist has used a Succulent with the Silver Senecio and Pine cone, another very popular choice currently for brides!
So please don’t worry about your upcoming wedding and the flowers available, there are always lots of options and by giving your florist an idea of the colours you like and dislike, the shape of the bouquet you have in mind and your wedding venue, they will be able to create something wonderful for you.
