Supplier Spotlight - Oyster & Pearl Design

Who are you and what do you do?
Oyster & Pearl Design is essentially me, Casey, working from my studio in the heart of the Devon countryside. I have 10 years’ award-winning design experience in packaging and branding, and during that time I have worked in both London and Bristol. However, my real passion is creating beautiful stationery! I design for all occasions, but most often it’s for weddings, which I love. Oyster & Pearl works in two ways. Firstly, I offer a completely bespoke and individual service, working with clients to create a design that really reflects their personality and style. Every aspect of the day is considered, from invitations to thank you cards. The stationery sets the tone for the wedding, so it’s important you get exactly what you want – sometimes an off the shelf design just won’t do. I can also create a ‘look and feel’ mood-board for the wedding. This can then be used as a creative brief for additional suppliers such as florists and cake makers. I can also include suggestions and contacts for the styling and decoration on the day. This will ensure a consistent ‘look and feel’ across all aspects of the wedding. Secondly, still with the aim of providing exceptionally beautiful stationery, clients can select a design from my existing portfolio. This would then be customised to reflect their own style and personality. All my designs use the finest quality materials. Many use letterpress printing and metallic foils, giving them a timeless quality and something to be treasured.

What was the inspiration for starting your business?
It was actually designing for my own wedding that inspired me to start my business. I loved the whole process so much I didn’t want it to end. Although I work in the design industry, a lot of the time I work for large corporate clients rather than individuals. This is the reason I love designing for weddings so much, I get the opportunity to work closely with two people and create something really special and personal to them.

What makes you stand out from the crowd?
I think one of the things that make Oyster & Pearl stand out is the fact that I also offer styling in edition to the stationery. By offering both services I am able to have a really clear vision for the day and ensure every aspect is perfect and exactly as my clients want it to be. Also, it gives clients the peace of mind that comes with working with fewer suppliers. Weddings can be stressful times, and my aim is to make sure each bride and groom enjoys the process as much as I do.

What are you tipping as the next “big thing” for weddings?
For me Gold is going to be a really key trend for weddings next year. I personally love it and have already seen that it become popular with clients looking for bespoke designs. I recently wrote a blog piece about called “All that glitters...” check it out here.

Best advice for brides and grooms to be planning their wedding?
Don’t loose sight of what your wedding is really about. It can be so easy for weddings to take over and become hard work. Make a list in order of priority of the things that are most important to you both. Concentrate on these first and if you don’t manage to get to everything else then don’t worry about it, the likelihood is that your guests won’t even notice. Above all, enjoy the planning as much as the day itself.
