Our Favourite Wedding Quotes

Whether you are getting married in church or holding a civil ceremony, you may decide that you would like family or friends to say a few words. There are so may choices of readings that we thought we would share a couple of our favourites with you.

Victor Hugo – Les Miserables
“You can give without loving, but you can never love without giving. The great acts of love are done by those who are habitually performing small acts of kindness. We pardon to the extent that we love. Love is knowing that even when you are alone, you will never be lonely again. & great happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved. Loved for ourselves. & even loved in spite of ourselves.”
Author unknown - These I can promise
I cannot promise you a lifetime of sunshine, I cannot promise riches, wealth or gold. I cannot promise you an easy pathway, that leads away from change or growing old. But I can promise all my heart’s devotion, a smile to chase away your tears of sorrow. A love that’s ever true and ever growing, a hand to hold in yours through each tomorrow.
Author Unknown - On Your Wedding Day
Today is a day you will always remember, the greatest in anyone’s life. You’ll start off the day just two people in love, and end it as husband and wife. It’s a brand new beginning, the start of a journey, with moments to cherish and treasure. And although they’ll be times when you both disagree, these will surely be outweighed by pleasure. You’ll have heard many words of advice in the past, when the secrets of marriage were spoken. But you know that the answers lie hidden inside, where the bond of true love lies unbroken. So live happy forever as lovers and friends, it’s the dawn of a new life for you. As you stand there together with love in your eyes, from the moment you whisper ‘I do’. And with luck all your hopes and your dreams can be real, may success find its way to your hearts. Tomorrow can bring you the greatest of joys, but today is the day it all starts.
Philippians 4 v 4-9
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.
Elizabeth Barrett Browning – Extract from SONNETS FROM THE PORTUGESE
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight For the ends of Being and ideal Grace. I love thee to the level of every day’s Most quiet need, by sun and candle light. I love thee freely, as men strive for Right; I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise. I love thee with the passion put to use In my old griefs, and my childhood’s faith. I love thee with a love I seemed to lose With my lost saints, – I love thee with the breath, Smiles, tears, of all my life! – and, if God choose, I shall love thee better after death.
